Ronald H. Brown operates a 33 node PC Local Area Network running Windows 2003 AD Server, Windows 2000 workstation, and Windows XP pro operating systems. Most of the PC's have dedicated functions for shipboard personnel but several are available for scientific parties on a shared basis. In addition, if sufficient demand exists, important x86 PC's brought aboard by the scientific party can be incorporated into the network.
The PC network utilizes shared resources such as postscript printers, virtual disk drives, CD-RW, DVD-RW. The network is used extensively like a small Office building would utilize, and for the sharing of message traffic and data (IS).
