Method #1
Use a (mother/main)board type ASUS TX97-E **
The board is feature rich what I especially like about this board is the ability in CMOS
to select any media one has attached and boot to it !
{cdrom, zip drive, LS-120, A:, B: c, d, e, f, g, h, i,.. !}

This quick method requires several HDD's. Each HDD would be bootable and contain
your different operating systems (Fat16, Fat32, Unix, NTFS, DOS, whatever).
upon power up (or modem spin up) you <Del> into the CMOS setup and select the boot
(modem: pre-select) device containing the OS you wish to work with (develop with,
or play that favorite game).
The downside to this is the fact (today, as of right now, this minute) that each
different operating system either will not read the other HDD's OS or OS content
present in the system OR will partially read the other HDD's and will/can write to them.
You can guess what would happen if you inadvertently wrote to a Fat32 using NTFS NT.
Cautions might be minimal depending on the requirements to work cross platform.
I do think that this method would indeed get one up and running and productive
in the quickest amount of time.
I will expound on this topic more, as I attempt this theory
and hopefully won't have to retract these ideas.
I think we're all still waiting for the NTFS -- Fat32 compatibility software
to be put in place. However; if you can't wait...........
due to ants, or deadlines, or that killer app, or game. Think about what I suggest.

Method #2
If you are going to install Windows 95/98
you can still keep your DOS 6.22 (7+) up and running
for games and Windows for Work Groups.
You don't have to be bothered with the (Windows 95/98)
DOS problems, or the incompatibilities that exist between
your 16 bit apps and the new Windows 95/98
32 bit platform. Switch between DOS 6.22 (7+)
and Windows 95 with little effort.
The complete step by step methodology, is up here or e-mail me,dracman@compuserve.com
and request the (free) procedure (its at the bottom of the page also).
If you've already installed Windows 95/98 You can still shoehorn
in the route back to your DOS 6.22 (7+)
environment and even -- Windows for Work Groups 3.11.
...you can even add Windows NT at anytime...
(just for grins or on a trial basis.)
Lose that feeling that you might get trapped in the wrong OS !
